Are your pins blurry when saving from website?
I’ve been there.
I was working hard to create beautiful graphics for my blog but when I was trying to pin them to Pinterest from my website, images would appear blurry on Pinterest!
I cannot explain how frustrated this made me, and it took me a while to find the reason for this.
If your pins are blurry when saving from the website, there is an easy fix that can help you save the day.
We’ll walk through these steps in a way that is easy for everyone!
Why Pinterest pins save blurry from my website?
When this issue occurred to me, I double-checked my pin images a million times – on Canva, the downloaded files, my blog posts.
For the life of me, I COULD NOT find where and why they suddenly become THAT blurry on Pinterest.
I thought it was a Pinterest problem, but I quickly dropped that theory because no other pins from other pinners were appearing blurry, as they were on my “Created” tab (follow me here)!
The blurriness made my pins look horrible and I knew that nobody was going to click or even look at them if I don’t fix the problem.
Finally, after some more detective work, I managed to trace the problem.
The reason your pins save blurry from your website is that the size of the image that you are pinning is too small.
I know what you’re thinking – no way! I am using the image sizes recommended by Pinterest.
Yes, however, there is one crucial error you are probably making.
An error that causes pins to be blurry
Just like me, you are probably downloading your pin images from the image editing app with the correct size.
The problem occurs when inserting the pins into your blog post – you are changing the image size without even knowing it!
There is a setting in WordPress that enables the user to change the size of images when you are inserting them into a blog post.
The size options are:
- Thumbnail
- Medium
- Large
- Full size
As a default WordPress has the Medium size option selected unless you change this.
That is the reason your pins look blurry – even though you created an image of the correct size, you accidentally resized it when inserting it into your blog post.
Pinterest pin size specs are much larger than this downsized image, which is why it appears blurry when saving from your blog.
How to fix blurry pins when uploading from a website
It is possible that you have a different problem, but in my experience, this quick fix usually does the job, so give it a go!
Here’s how you fix the blurry pins when uploading from the website.
First, you need to re-upload all the affected images.
Let’s do this step-by-step together:
#1 Open up a blog post in editing mode.
#2 Delete the image that appears blurry on Pinterest
#3 Click on “Add Media”
#4 Find the pin you just deleted in your Media Library, or upload a new image:
#5 On the Attachment Details panel on the right, scroll down until you see the Attachment Display Settings section:
#6 Select “Full Size” from the Size dropdown menu and insert the image into the post.
Voila!
Now you have your full-size image displayed in your blog post.
If you have more than one blurry pin, you will have to go to all blog posts with affected pins and repeat the process.
Only now WordPress will remember your “Full size” settings preference, so you only have to select and re-insert your image.
When you save pins from your website now, they won’t be blurry anymore.
However, if this solution didn’t work for you, then contact Pinterest and they will be able to advise you.
What resolution should Pinterest pins be?
Pinterest recommends vertical size pins because they look the best on the platform.
Typically, your Pinterest pins should measure at least 600px in width to be effective.
The golden rule is to use a 2:3 aspect ratio for your pins. For example, a 600 px wide pin should have a height of 900 px.
Bloggers often go with 1000 x 1500 px for maximum impact.
Does Pinterest reduce image size?
Yes, Pinterest will reduce the resolution of your pinned images.
This is to ensure the webpage loads fast enough and Pinterest has good performance.
It is the reason why your pins might look EXTRA blurry on Pinterest, compared to the image displayed on your blog post.
How to save pins from a website
There are a few ways to add your pins to Pinterest.
Pinterest button
You can install a Pinterest button plugin on WordPress for the easiest pinning experience.
You can then just click on the Pinterest icon on your image and it will save your pin directly from your blog post.
This is how I pin all my images to Pinterest.
How to manually upload pins
If you prefer not to have full-size images on your website, you will have to add your high-resolution images to Pinterest manually.
The easiest way to do that is by clicking “Create” on your Pinterest home feed (you have two options).
Upload your pin:
You will have to fill in all the details manually – don’t forget the link to your blog post!
Select the right board and hit “Publish”!
How do I make Pinterest pins attractive?
Your pins need to catch attention and make the viewer want to click and explore your website.
Use bright and bold colors, a mix of fonts that go well together, unique images (avoid free stock photos as they are overused), and an eye-catching description.
Making your pins appealing is an important step in getting Pinterest views.
How do I make my pins longer?
Canva, in my opinion, is the best tool in the market for creating beautiful vertical pins.
It has a great selection of Pinterest Pin templates that are already set to perfect pin size.
You can also resize any image you want into a Pinterest pin size with just a few clicks.
To do this, go to the image file you want to make longer, and click “Resize” on the top left:
In the search bar, type “Pinterest” and you will see a few options for a Pinterest Pin:
Just click “Resize” or “Copy & Resize” and you will have a long vertical pin. Rearrange the elements to fit the new size and it’s ready to publish!
Can I edit photos on Pinterest?
Yes, you can edit photos on Pinterest now!
Once you upload your pin manually, click on the Edit button. This allows you to do some basic editing, such as adjusting the aspect ratio, size, or adding some text.
However, the features of the Pinterest image editor are very limited.
If you want your pins to stand out, Canva gives you much more flexibility.
