You might have heard people talking about the term “micro niche” recently, but what is a micro niche blog?
A micro niche blog is a small website that features content related to one specific topic.
Bloggers often choose this option because they are passionate about their subject and want to share it with others who are just as enthusiastic.
If you’re ready to create your own micro niche blog, here are some things you need to know!
What is a micro niche blog?
A micro niche blog is a website that features content related to one specific topic.
Bloggers often choose this option because they are passionate about their subject and want to share it with others who are just as enthusiastic.
Differences between micro niche and broad-niche blogs
In a generic blog, you might have posts that cover 2-5 (and even more) different topics.
Micro niche blogs are usually focused on a very narrow subject.
It could be a sub-topic of a wider niche, such as food, design, fashion, pet, or hobby niche.
You might think it is too limiting, but the truth is that you often have better chances to succeed with a microblog, as you have less competition.
It can be easier to rank an article that is on a microblog, than the same article published on a broad-niche blog.
This is because Google likes content from experts, and you are more likely to appear as an expert if you continuously blog about the same subject.
How to find your micro niche
You must first decide what you want to focus on.
Do you have a hobby?
If you’re really passionate about the topic, it will be easier to generate traffic for this blog.
Keep in mind that you will have to create quite a lot of content before you start seeing traffic.
That’s why passions and hobbies matter.
If you are not interested in the subject, will you be able to write 50 – 100 blog posts on that subject?
Maybe, but the chances of early burnout are higher than if you were blogging about something you like.
Digital marketing and content creation is my passion. I can easily see myself writing hundreds of content pieces about it and not getting bored.
On the other hand, If I started a blog about Minecraft (a popular video game), the following would happen:
- I would find it extremely tedious to produce content for this site as the subject is not interesting to me.
- I would have to do a lot more research before writing, as I don’t have any knowledge on the subject currently.
So, when deciding on a niche ask yourself the following questions:
- Can I write 100 blog posts about this subject?
- Do I already have at least some knowledge about it?
- Are there keyword opportunities in this niche?
- Is this niche YMYL (Your Money Your Life)?
YMYL is a term used by Google to categorize niches that impact people’s lives or financial situations. Examples of such niches include giving medical or legal advice, financial advice, and so on.
You might want to steer clear of the niches categorized as YMYL unless you have good authority and credentials that prove you are an expert in the field.

Many micro niches are profitable!

Start your own micro niche blog
Now that you’ve decided on a niche, it’s time to start building your blog.
Hosting & Domain
The first thing you need to do is buy a domain name and web hosting.
I recommend using Bluehost, as they are a cheap, established, and reliable web host company.
Most importantly – they never leave an issue unsolved. Every time I’ve had issues or wanted to consult them about something, I was able to connect with customer service in minutes over live chat or phone.
WordPress
Once you have your hosting, you need to install WordPress.
You can do this in your Bluehost cPanel.
WordPress is a free content management system that makes it easy to create and manage your blog content.
Theme
Once WordPress is installed, it’s time to select a theme that will make your blog stand out.
I use Themeforest – they have an amazing selection of themes that will make your website look beautiful and easy to use.
Content
Once you bought and installed a theme, you’re pretty much set!
The next step is to start writing!
Find some keywords to target and create helpful and valuable content for your audience.
How to grow a micro niche blog
There are multiple different ways you can market your blog.
The best FREE ways to get traffic to your microblog are:
- Google SEO – creating blog posts optimized for the Google search engine can be extremely powerful for driving traffic to a micro niche blog.
- Pinterest marketing – yes, Pinterest still works for bloggers! I use Canva to create attractive pins which Pinterest users click on and end up on my blog posts.
