As a nail artist turned beauty blogger, I reach for reds first come December. They look rich and stunning in photos, and they literally carry every design, even when the nail art is quite simple. (Hey, nothing against simplicity!)

But with so much choice overload, it’s easy to get a bit lost and not know what’s trending this year vs. what was trendy 10 years ago. Let me tell you, not all candy canes, Santa hats, and snowflakes are are the same when it comes to nail art trends. You need ideas that feel chic this year, but of course still look timeless and works for lots of outfits. I got you!

So I’m pleased to share with you this guide to red Christmas nails ideas that are actually on-trend and super cute. Each idea uses red nail polish as the main component, with finishes and accents that can make the design more whimsical or expensive looking – the choice is yours.

Don’t forget to save your faves to your Pinterest collection for reference later!

Red Christmas Nails With Golden Bows

Nails so pretty, we wrapped them as Christmas presents! The tiny gold metallic bows combined with glossy red nails are super elegant and festive at the same time. Place them over sheer milky base for a gift-wrapped vibe, or even over red base for a bolder vibe. Keep the red opaque and deep, then let the gold bow be the star.

Peppermint Swirls/Candy Canes

On these stunning Christmas nails, red and white swirls feel playful and nostalgic – use a bright candy red for the base of the circles, then swirl on creamy white lines that curve like ribbon. Add some candy canes of you want, or just stick to peppermint swirls. Paint them over blush colored glitter base. Super Christmassy and cute.

Red Shimmery Nails With Intricate Snowflakes

This one is all about combination of shimmery ruby red base that gives your snowflakes that glowyred background. Paint crisp white flakes on two accent nails, then add tiny white dots for the look of ice crystals. The shimmer peeks through and keeps the snowflakes from looking flat, it is SO pretty.

Square Red Glitter Frenchies

You can keep it simple and still look festive! A square tip is a classic, and a glitter red smile line looking sharp and modern. Keep the base neutral pink, then pack the tip with fine red glitter. It is simple, clean, and amazing if you like classy nails that still feel just a bit festive.

Red Nails With Gold Accents And Holly Berries

The gold flecks ties everything together and keeps the art from looking too minimalist, and we’re here for it. Classic holly is always cute in combination with red Christmas nails. Dot on rich red berries, add leaf shapes in deep green, then trace a few gold lines for sparkle.

Minimalist Red Christmas Trees

Simplicity really is more sometimes. Paint a soft milky or blush base, then add artsy little trees with a fine detail brush. Don’t worry if they don’t all look uniform – this design is all about quirkiness and being different. It is minimal, super sweet, and very Instagram friendly, which never hurts.

Red And Green Festive Nails With Bows

Alternate red and green colors on each nail to create a beautiful, cohesive and festive look, then add cutesy lil red bows on two nails. Tie everything together with teeny tiny white snowflakes. The mix is definitely party ready, but still polished for work, adore this classic color combo.

Short Red French Tips With Reindeer Accent

You don’t need to go long to have festive-looking nails! These short square nails look super chic with a slim cherry-red French tip. Add one reindeer face on an accent nail, with tiny antlers and a red nose. It is adorable, but not too childish – a perfect amount of whimsy. And perfect for anyone who likes subtle Christmas nail art.

Double French Tips – Red And Gold Combo

The two lines look kind of luxurious without heavy nail art. Layer a thin gold line above a classic red tip for a double French Christmas mani. It frames the nail beautifully and elongates the shape, absolutely stunning.

Red Chrome Nails With Frosty Accents

This one’s for the girlies who like to stand out – red chrome is the star here, shining like ornaments on a tree. Then just add frosty white accents near the cuticle, on some (or all) of the nails to create that snowy/frosty effect. The contrast of slick chrome and airy white feels fresh and cool. Love this finished look!

Red Nails With Lil’ Penguin

This one’s for the girls who like something cute on their nails! Red nails make a penguin on white base really pop. Then you just add some crisp white little snowflakes, and that’s the look! Add a tiny red scarf or earmuffs, then keep the rest simple – unbelievably cute result.

Red Glitter Ombre Nails

Ombre nails are still very trendy, and to make the design Christmas-appropriate, all you have to do is choose a nice fine red glitter polish. Fade dense red glitter from the tip toward the center with a little sponge or nail art brush for a smooth ombre. Use fine glitter for a glassy look, or chunkier one if you want more sparkle.

Long Almond Nails With Santa Accents

Christmas = Santa, and here’s a way to incorporate him into your nails. These long almond shapes flatter Santa nail art because there is more space for details. Keep most nails a creamy red, then add Santa faces in the middle. Finish with some snowflakes (of course), I’m obsessed.

Classy Red Nails With Plaid Accent Nail

This one’s subtle and classy. A perfect versatile choice that will go well with any outfit. A plaid accent on one or two nails adds some depth and makes the design more interesting without too much effort (honestly). Use red, black, and thin gold lines for a chic holiday tartan. The rest of the nails stay rich red, or milky/neutral, which keeps the look balanced and TOTALLY chic.

Red Frenchies With Silver Snowflakes

A little bit of red polish, a little bit of sparkle – can’t go wrong. For this look, pair a ruby red French tip with fine silver snowflakes placed near the smile line. Silver keeps it cool and crisp. It looks like frost catching light at the edge of your nails.

Burgundy Glitter Nails With Candy Cane Stripes

Deep burgundy glitter feels super expensive and festive and almost kind of moody. Add thin candy cane stripes on an accent nail for an instant pop. This pairing is cool and grown up with a just maybe a wink of holiday fun.

Red Almond Nails With Snowy Tips

Very mindful, very demure. This simple red Christmas nails look features soft almond nails with snowy white tips that look cozy and clean. Just use a dotting tool to create the snowy white tips effect. The red base warms it up, so that it looks just right.

Deep Red Shade With Gold Chrome Bows

Want something less subtle, more bold, Christmas girlie energy? Go for a deep, glossy red, then add small gold chrome bows and ribbons, for that Christmas gift look. The chrome finish catches light like jewelry, honestly. Keep placement the same on each nail for a clean, editorial look.

Matte Red With Subtle Snowflakes

Matte red is such a warm, soft choice. On this design, velvet matte red feels super smooth. Paint on some thin white snowflakes on a couple of nails, spaced out so the design can breathe. Seal the art with matte top coat so the texture stays even and elegant.

Red Glitter Framed French Nails

What a simple way to create a stunning, bold look – outline the entire nail with a thin band of red glitter, then add red glitter French tips for that seamless framed effect. It frames the nail like a picture. The look is modern, graphic, and will go great with your Christmas party outfit.

Red Christmas Nails With Silver Glitter Baubles

Fancy some baubles on your nails? Alternate painting a glossy red base with milky white base, then all you need to add is tiny silver glitter baubles hanging from slim lines. It’s actually really easy to create, yet unique and Holiday-ready. The sparkle is bright, but the design stays sleek.

Translucent Nails With Red Santa Hats

To recreate, keep the nail translucent or milky white, then add neat red Santa hats on a few nails. A tiny white pom and brim make them pop. The negative space keeps the look clean and modern, and definitely super cute.

Ombre Bright Red Tips

Easy doies it with this one -blend bright red from the tip toward the center for a soft fade. Try to keep it to French tip shape, only with blurred edges. Use a little sponge to help you achieve this look. Leave the base sheer or neutral for a fresh look. It feels light, but still very holiday.

Snowy Red Glitter French Nails

Snowstorm on your perfect red Frenchies? Yes please! First build a red glitter French, then dot tiny snowflakes all over, with one or two larger accent snowflakes. It looks like frosted ornaments along your tips, LOOOVE how it comes together.

Red Glitter Almond Nails With Large Snowflakes

A full red glitter base with one milky white base nail holds large snowflake nail art beautifully. Keep the flakes bold intricate and centered so they look clear. One or two statement nails are enough when the base is this sparkly.

Red And Gold Line French Tips

Red glitter is one of those things we use a lot to create Christmas nail sets, for example in this stylish French manicure set: draw a slim red tip, then parallel it with a paper thin gold glitter line. The spacing matters, keep the lines tight and clean. It is fast, chic, and works on every nail length.

Shiny Red Chrome Almond Nails

Want a very simple yet festive Christmas nails look? Go for red chrome on almond nails. It does the job with literally zero fuss. The shape and shine together feel dressy without any extra art.

Candied Apple Red Shade With Snow-Dipped Tips

This look is all about the contrast between a bright shade of red and a soft diffused white tip that looks like piles of snow. Choose a candied apple red, bright and juicy. Then use a sponge to create that soft white snowy look at the very edge so it looks dipped in snow. The contrast is sweet, simple, and holiday ready.

Simple Glittery Short French Nails

Short nails can do the job just fine! In this design, we chose simple skinny red glitter tip with a milky base on square nails. Keep the French tip narrow for a tidy look. The sparkle gives instant polish – here for it.

Red Ombre Nails With Snow Blizzard

To achieve this simple snowy red Christmas nails look, blend deep red into a nautral base, then add scattered white dots over the fade. Vary dot sizes for a blizzard effect. A glossy top coat makes everything look like glass, honestly SO photogenic.

Minimal Red Nails With Gold Dots

Love a simple design sometimes. For this one, paint all nails a rich red, then place one gold dot at each cuticle. It looks like tiny jewelry. Clean, chic, and fast, the style pairs with any outfit and gives cozy vibes. Works for long or short nails – totally up to you.

Burgundy Shimmery Red With Silver Snowflake Blizzard

Deep red and a bit of sparkle, anyone? Choose a burgundy shimmer that glows under lights. Add a soft scatter of silver snowflakes, spaced from tip to base. The mix reads luxe and wintry, perfect for evening plans.

Red Nails With Champagne Glitter And Geometric Accents

Short red nails get glam-y update with champagne glitter and thick line art. It’s a simpel design idea, that instantly makes your nails look interesting and festive. Add one or two angled lines for a modern touch. The warm glitter pairs beautifully with a true red base, and it is definitely salon ready.

Festive Red And Gold French Tips

Paint a classic red French, then add thin gold edges to frame the tips. Place tiny gold snowflakes on two nails for sparkle. The combo feels festive, polished, and photo ready, UNBELIEVABLY cute.
